TURCK adds target pucks to DSU35 valve sensor

TURCK adds target pucks to DSU35 valve sensor

TURCK announces target pucks for its DSU35 valve sensor series, which feature large targets to expedite and simplify sensing adjustments—ensuring highly accurate valve position data. DSU35 sensors monitor valve position via pneumatic rotary actuators, and then provide electronic feedback indicating an open or closed position. A fully adjustable target puck is placed over the actuator stem and features interlocking teeth for accurate positioning, as well as providing vibration resistance.

Scale Back on Heat Tracing
Chemical Processing, May 2009
By Andrew Sloley
To prevent freeze expansion damage, plants in chilly areas generally use electricity or steam to heat trace water lines. While this addresses an obvious hazard, it also can pose pitfalls for pumps, as one plant discovered.

Packaged pumps stem wastewater woes
Design Product Applications, May 2009
To help wastewater treatment facilities avoid health and safety issues, pump manufacturers have developed packaged pumping systems, which deliver effective sewage transfer, combined with ease of access, installation and maintenance. Packaged systems pump and macerate waste in a single operation, which is far more effective and energy efficient than operating and maintaining submersible pumps in a sump.

Choose The Right One!
Industrial Automation Asia, May 2009
By Michael Liedhegener, Bosch Rexroth
Machine builders and factory operators may have misconceptions about hydraulic-based motion. Although valued for its ability to move heavy loads, it has not been thought of as exceptionally precise, or able to support multi-axis applications. The advent of closed-loop electrohydraulic motion controllers has changed the equation.

How to choose a ball valve to curb fugitive emissions
What's New in Process Technology, May 2009
By Michael Adkins and Peter Ehlers
To control fugitive emissions from ball valves, the critical point is to select the right ball valve for the application. While this article does not address all ball valve types, it focuses on two design features that are especially important in controlling fugitive emissions and overall cost of ownership: body seal design and stem seal design.

Keeping it simple: thermal transient testing of high-pressure safety injection reactor pumps
Power Engineering International, May 2009
By Frank Costanzo and Mike Eftychiou, Flowserve
PWR reactors must be designed to handle any primary loop failure, whether small or large, because the reactor core will melt if not continuously cooled. High-pressure safety injection (HPSI) pumps keep the core flooded and cooled in the initial stages of an accident. Article explains how such pumps are tested to ensure they can be relied on to meet this critical safety function.

Taking the Guesswork Out of Pneumatic Control
By Clippard Instrument Laboratory
Designers have several options when constructing pneumatic-control systems. But modular air-logic systems are often a good bet when a compact, economical unit is a must. Here's a step-by-step approach to efficiently designing systems that work right the first time.

Replacing Centrifugal Water Pumps for High Pressure Applications
IEN, May 2009
One area where high pressure process pumps play an integral role is in the paper industry, where high pressure (400 to 5,000 psi) water jets are used in a variety of continuous-duty cleaning applications. Applications include the cleaning of screens, felts, fabrics, and suction rolls used on the paper machine, as well as the cleaning of filters and fiber recovery systems used to support the process.

Bruce Power Uses Digital Technology to Fix Heater Drain System
Power Engineering, May 2009
By Jeff Kerker, et al
Steam hammer has been a common problem on the HX5 drain lines in all eight units at Bruce Power in Ontario, Canada, caused by an inverted loop in the saturated drains that allowed liquid to collect and inadequate heater level control. The old piping system was removed, new piping installed, control system installed and cold commissioning, all in 28 days.

Air shut-off valves and spark arrestors protect LNG terminal
HazardEx, April 2009
Chalwyn air shut off valves and exhaust spark arrestors have been fitted on the maintenance vehicles working at the Milford Haven South Hook LNG terminal. This is to match the high level of hazardous area safety at the facility to that achieved in the Middle East at the Qatar Gas LNG production plant.
